Hey Hey
The giant update. Last week I was working in Calgary, doing my once every 3 months waste audits. I actually went on a date with a garbage driver - shock! Maybe, as friends have said in the past, I'll actually marry one, hmm... probably not this one since he has a 5 year old kid and owns a motorcycle - I don't quite find guys on a motorcycle too sexy (Unlike Zara), but a guy with a truck? um ok! As long as he's not compensating for something...
Anyway, Calgary was lots of fun. I had so much time to myself, which is what I had been needing for awhile. I got to the gym every day which was really good, I'm so proud of myself. It was more that I was trying to get ready for my monstrous hike with my brother the upcoming weekend. On saturday morning, my brother and my sister in law drove down to Waterton for a 3 day camping/hiking trip. The first day we hiked to Lowes lake, I think it was called. 14 km hike - was quite exhausting, but I really enjoyed the scenary. Because of my knees, I got the hiking poles which were quite helpful. At night we stayed in a KOA campground. I have no idea how people that have RV's and such stay there and call it camping. They have laundry, showers, flush toilets - thats not camping, its called housing, because most people there had TVs in their RVs as well. Boo to them! Not impressed! Whatever, I slept squished up against the side of the tent, by my brother. It was so hot and sticky, and I complained minimal, but then realized I was doing hte "real" camping thing, unlike RV people - wannabes! Sheesh! OK. So then Saturday we drove to "town", got a bus ride to the start of our hike and hiked for 8 hours the first day. It was so grueling. We hiked up 800 metres, with 45 lbs on our backs. We reached the summit and there was so much fog that we could barely see 4 feet in front of us. We missed "the most beautiful part of our hike" because of the fog, and when we got to our camp, we put up the tent and went to bed at 8pm since we had nothing else to do. Monday, we woke up, hiked back to the summit to see all the absolutely amazing sites we had missed the day before, and to have a better look at the canyon we had camped in the night before. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I wanted to just sit on the lake edge and stay mesmorized by the sites surrounding me. We all had a quit dip in the glacial lake and started our hike down. Overall, I saw 2 bears (one grizzly, one black bear - who really just looked like a human dressed as a bear b/c he was so small) and then 10 mule deer, 1 marmot and about 10 ground squirrels - that hiss at you. Weird! But very cute. Woah, this is a long entry. More later,
I date "garbage" engineers too :)
